Key combinations save time and effort and reduce the risk of RSI. So use keyboard shortcuts to give the computer a command.
Frequently used actions
For some commonly used actions, there are keyboard shortcuts, also known as key combinations. A hotkey is a combination of keys that you press at the same time. Gives the computer a command. Popular keyboard shortcuts include Ctrl+C (Cmd+C for Mac) to copy something or Ctrl+S (Cmd+S for Mac) to save a file. You can also give these commands with the mouse, but that takes more time. You then have to click on various buttons in the menu of the program.
Saving time and convenience are important reasons for using keyboard shortcuts. But there is another advantage to key combinations: they reduce mouse use. That is good for the hands, arms and wrists.
