Also busier than before corona

The traffic jam has made a huge comeback since the ‘end of the corona period’, according to figures from the ANWB. Moreover, it is generally busier than before corona, although there are exceptions.
It is clear on the road that the Dutch are on the road again. The ANWB calculates that traffic jams have increased by 19 percent since the end of the corona period. In this case, the target is the end of March 2022 and this concerns the total length multiplied by the duration of the traffic jams. Not surprisingly, the ANWB concludes that working from home is no longer noticeable.
Especially during the evening rush hour, it has become considerably busier again since the last corona measures were lifted. The severity of traffic jams in the evening increased by an average of 20 percent. During the morning rush hour it is relatively not too bad; this amounts to an increase of 12 percent. Also compared to 2019, the last year before corona, the severity of traffic jams is higher at most times during the week. Only on Monday morning, Wednesday evening and Friday morning is the severity of traffic jams lower than in 2019. The ANWB finds the latter particularly striking. According to the association, there is ‘hardly any rush hour’ on Friday morning.
Of course, traffic on the road did not increase equally everywhere, as an analysis of the provinces shows. The severity of traffic jams increased significantly in North Brabant by 35 percent, in North Holland by 31 percent and in South Holland by 24 percent, but in Utrecht and Gelderland this was only 9 and 6 percent respectively. Locally there are also outliers; In the morning it is better not to drive on the A12 from Germany to Arnhem, on the A27 from Breda to Utrecht or on the A1 from Apeldoorn to Amsterdam. In the evening it is especially bad on the A27 from Utrecht to Breda, on the A4 from Amsterdam to The Hague and on the A2 from Utrecht to Den Bosch.
