Finally: Siri Spotify support now available
Apple’s voice assistant Siri has so far only listened to music questions about Apple Music. As soon as a competing music service such as Spotify came into play, the assistant did not give home. This to the frustration of many Spotify listeners, who could not use voice control to operate Spotify because of this.
With the arrival of iOS 13, Apple has become a bit more flexible, and Spotify is making good use of that. We’ve already seen Siri support being tested for the music service in recent weeks, and now it’s available to everyone.
This is how you activate Siri Spotify support on your iPhone
- Make sure your iPhone or iPad is running iOS 13 or iPadOS 13 or newer;
- Download the most recent Spotify app update;
- Say “Hey Siri, play X on Spotify” with an artist name in place of the X;
- Allow Siri to use Spotify data;
- Siri will now automatically open the correct page in Spotify.
Giving permission is one-time, which means that you can now control Siri completely hands-free on your iPhone. Handy, because that comes in handy in the car, for example. You can now also use Siri on CarPlay, AirPods and the HomePod.
This way you can, for example, open an artist page, but also your favorite playlists, specific albums and songs. As a result, Siri now works just as well with Spotify as it does with Apple Music.
Spotify now also available on the Apple TV
Another nice improvement for Spotify listeners is the introduction of a brand new Apple TV app. It makes it easy to play your entire Spotify library on your TV and provides a full screen view of album art, playlists and most recently listened albums. The app is free to download and use for all Spotify subscribers.
