For sale in the Netherlands early next year
The Smart #1 was the largest Smart ever. Indeed, laundry. This is the Smart #3, an even larger and certainly electric crossover from the brand that once only lived in small city dwellers and that now offers several medium-sized electric crossovers.
Smart naturally started his automotive career in the 1990s with the initially City Coupé called Fortwo. That city car, which was approximately 2.5 meters short, was later joined by a Mitsubishi-style Forfour. That was something, that five-door Smart was no less than 3.75 meters long! The Forfour also pales in comparison to the cars that Smart now offers. For example, you can already contact the brand for a 4.27 meter long electric #1. Smart #1 will remain for a while, but must now recognize its superiority in Smart #3.
The Smart #3 is what its creators refer to as an ‘SUV Coupe’. A tall model with a fairly steeply sloping roofline. The Smart #3 extends over a distance of 4.4 meters and is therefore another 13 centimeters longer than the #1. Its wheelbase is also larger. There is 2.79 meters between the front and rear axle, about 4 centimeters more than the #1. However, the #3 is about 8 centimeters lower than the #1.
To be fair, the Smart #3 now announced for the Netherlands is of course no longer a surprise. As early as November 2022, AutoWeek was able to show you the first photos of the car and earlier this year the Smart #3 was already shown for the European market. What do we find out now? When it will arrive and in what flavors the Smart #3 will be available in the Netherlands.
Two powertrains and up to 455 kilometers of range
Smart will open the order books for the #3 in the Netherlands early next year, so we cannot tell you prices yet. Smart does report that #3 will come to the Netherlands in four versions, including a sporty Brabus flavor with two electric motors that together produce 428 hp. That Smart #3 Brabus accelerates from a standstill to a speed of 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds. The other versions are called Pro+, Premium and 25th Anniversary. The latter is of course a temporary variant in honor of Smart’s 25th anniversary. Each #3 has a 66 kWh battery pack, although the drivetrains differ.
Each non-Brabus version has 272 hp and 343 Nm strong electric motor on the rear axle. The 272 hp variant is certainly not a slow one, with a 0-100 time of 5.8 seconds. The top speed of each #3 is set at 180 km/h. The most efficient Smarts #3 are the Premium and 25th Anniversary. They reach a range of 455 kilometers. The Brabus variant has a range of 415 kilometers on a full battery, while the basic version Pro+ has a range of 435 kilometers. Fast charging is possible with up to 150 kW. The lightest Smart #3 weighs 1,780 kilos (Pro+). The Premium and 25th Anniversary both weigh 1,810 kilos and the top version Brabus even reaches a car weight of 1,910 kilos.
Do some of the above figures sound familiar to you? That is not so strange. You will encounter such capabilities in the Smart #1, but also in cars such as the Volvo EX30 and Zeekr The #3 is therefore a technical sister model of those models.
Equipment
Every Smart #3 also has adaptive cruise control with stop & go function, active lane assistant, blind spot detection, traffic sign recognition, ‘highway assistant’ parking sensors and a 360-degree camera. Entry-level version Pro+ has door handles recessed into the doors, just like every other Smart #3. Also standard are items such as a 12.8-inch central infotainment screen, a 9.2-inch digital instrument cluster, an inductive charger for your smartphone, artificial leather-covered electrically heated seats, an electrically operated tailgate and 19-inch alloy wheels.
The Premium version adds adaptive high beams, a 10-inch head-up display and hardware and software that allow the Smart to park automatically. This version also has more extensive mood lighting in the interior, a Beats audio system and leather upholstery. The 25h Anniversary is loaded with the same sporty exterior extras as the Brabus version and also has a heat pump and a panoramic glass roof on board. The Brabus version gets an even more extensive audio system from Beats, 20-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers and seats with perforated suede upholstery.
The Smart #1 is available from over €41,000. This larger Smart #3 will of course be a bit more expensive.
