Smartphone SIM card security

Secure the SIM card of the iPhone or Android smartphone with a code. In the event of loss or theft, this makes it less easy for others to call and use the internet at your expense.

You need a SIM card from a provider to make calls with a smartphone. This SIM card is often protected by a code by the provider. Sometimes with the simple code ‘0000’. Other imposed codes may be difficult to remember. So make up your own code. Allows you to unlock the SIM card if the phone has been turned off or if you insert the SIM card into another phone. Others can’t just use your SIM card because of this security. A nice thought.

The SIM card security is very strict: if you enter an incorrect code three times, the SIM card will be blocked. The only way to unblock is by entering the so-called PUK code. That’s a complicated long code that you got from your provider. You can request this via customer service.

On the iPhone, enter the SIM security code after the access security code. With Android devices, it’s exactly the other way around.

Smartphones also have access protection. You will not be able to access the device until you enter the security. You can protect the device with a password or PIN, but often also with a fingerprint or facial recognition. Of course, we also recommend securing the smartphone in this way. After all, you could lose the device, or it could be stolen.

  • Learn how to set a password on an Android device in the tip ‘Set the lock screen on Android device’.
  • Read in the tip ‘Passcode on the iPad/iPhone’ how to set a password on the iPad or iPhone.

You can change the SIM card (SIM security) code on a Samsung device. This does not work the same on all Samsung phones. The steps may be slightly different. Tip: People with other Android phones can also broadly follow these steps.
