Poor Rod Ponton, the lawyer who accidentally attended a hearing in the US with a cat filter on and didn’t know how to turn it off. You can have a lot of fun with video filters yourself. Install Snap Camera on your computer and, if necessary, communicate as a talking banana or green alien during video calls.
Step 1: Installation
The program Snap Camera puts hilarious filters over your webcam’s image. The application is a product of Snapchat and it is also no wonder that these are the same filters that you will also find in that app. The filters only distort yourself in front of the camera, leaving the background untouched, while you communicate through the usual video channels.
On the download page you must register first. In other words, you must provide an email address, but do not need to confirm it. There is a version for that by the way Windows 10 and macOS 10.13 or later. The app is free. Then download the installation file and run through the installer.
Step 2: Settings
Of course you give your webcam and microphone access to the application and after that you can explore the program and try the different lenses. The offer is huge, because with the tool Lens Studio anyone can make their own lenses.
Click on the gear at the top right to go to the Settings to go. Here you can select the webcam if it hasn’t already been selected. With some cameras you also have to set a resolution. You can use keyboard shortcuts to switch between the different cartoon styles.
A window at the top of the app shows you how each filter affects your appearance, and what your video feed will look like the next time your online meeting starts.
Step 3: Video Conferencing
Then choose a filter in the carousel and start Teams, Zoom, Google Hangouts or Skype. Open the settings of the selected program and go to Devices, where you have to choose the camera.
Instead of your normal webcam, choose now Snap Camera. You will see that the movements of your head, your mouth, your eyes, your posture are taken over by the alter ego on the screen.
