Sonos has launched its own radio service called Sonos Radio HD. Within the service you will find multiple radio stations featuring iconic artists and experienced curators, according to Sonos. You should know this about the radio service.
High quality and ad-free
With the radio service you can listen to music in high quality (‘lossless audio of CD quality’). According to Sonos, it offers the highest sound quality of any streaming radio service. Incidentally, it is not possible to lower the audio quality, which people with a poor WiFi connection would probably have found a valuable addition.
In Sonos Radio HD, you won’t be bothered by annoying ads: the service is ad-free, but it comes at a price. For example, you will first have to subscribe to Sonos Radio HD. Subscription costs after a thirty-day trial period are $ 7.99 or £ 7.99 per month for customers in the United States and the United Kingdom, equivalent to approximately 6.70 euros. The service is not yet available in Europe, but Sonos has announced that Radio HD will be launched sometime in 2021 in the Netherlands and Belgium. It cannot be ruled out that the price will therefore go towards 7.99 euros.
In comparison: with Spotify and Apple Music you pay 9.99 euros per month, but these services also offer the option to stream singles and albums on demand, unlike Sonos.
Also free
It is also possible to listen to Sonos Radio for free, but not in high quality and including advertisements. This service was launched in the Netherlands earlier this year and contains 60,000 different radio stations that you can listen to. The different stations are also divided into genres, so you can easily choose a station that suits your mood at that moment.
Sonos Radio HD offers some more exclusive genre stations, more in-depth content from and about artists, and sounds to relax and fall asleep to, according to Sonos. You can also skip and repeat songs.
Dolly Parton, among others, has already linked her name to Sonos Radio HD and has its own station. Expect plenty of Parton hits, music from her favorite artists, and special commentary on songs and moments from her career. There is also a special radio station aimed at Dutch listeners, called Radio à Gogo, which can also be listened to for free users. According to Nu.nl, the music composition of the new radio station Radio à Gogo is provided by radio DJ Sander de Heer.
“Sonos Radio HD means even more choice and better sound for Sonos customers,” said Patrick Spence, Sonos CEO.
