Meta and Spotify are working on an awesome MSN-esque retro feature for Instagram users. Here’s what you need to know.
Spotify and Instagram working on retro feature
In streaming apps like Apple Music and Spotify it has been possible for a while now to share the song you are listening to in a post or Story on Instagram. Now Spotify is adding a great MSN-like retro feature that does this automatically and in real time.
Share songs from Spotify to Instagram in real time
Basically, this feature lets you connect your Instagram account to Spotify. The streaming platform will then automatically create a new note on Instagram with the song that’s playing on Spotify. These notes will be visible to other Instagram users in the Messages (DM) tab or when they open your profile.
The new feature is called ‘Share from Spotify’ and was discovered by developer Alessandro Paluzzi. In a post on Threads allows users to continuously share what they are listening to, but also stop sharing at any time. The feature is not yet available, but all indications are that it will be announced soon. So you can already share songs from Spotify to a note on Instagram, but you currently have to do this manually for each song.
Microsoft Messenger Retro Feature
The new feature is reminiscent of a retro feature of Microsoft Messenger (better known as MSN). With that you could also show your friends in real time what music you were listening to. This feature is now coming back in a new form.
Unfortunately, it seems that Apple Music users are left out for now. Hopefully Apple will come up with a similar feature in the future, but that remains to be seen.
We’re curious to see if users are happy with the ‘Share from Spotify’ feature on Instagram. And if they’ll use it once it’s available. Let us know what you think!
