Spotify has added a long-awaited feature that makes the application much more secure. These changes are what it’s all about!
Managed accounts on Spotify
Another new feature is available at Spotify! The music service has introduced a long-awaited feature, because you can now add managed accounts on Spotify. These accounts are intended for young listeners, so that they have their own protected profile in the application. This way, they no longer have to use the same account as the subscription administrator.
It has been possible for some time to add multiple members to one Family subscription. Managed accounts are now added, which can be protected from certain content via parental controls. For example, parents can block explicit content from playing on the managed account. Canvases and videos with explicit content can also be shielded. Spotify must be safe for everyone, including young listeners.

Here’s how to set up managed accounts
Do you share an account with your children or other young listeners? In that case, you can now add managed accounts with the new feature in Spotify. These are protected with a PIN code, so that the settings can only be adjusted by the account administrator. This way, young listeners cannot enable explicit content in the application themselves. To set up managed accounts:
- Open ‘Spotify’ on your iPhone;
- Tap your profile photo at the top left;
- Choose ‘Settings and privacy’;
- Go to ‘Accounts’ and tap ‘Premium Family’;
- Under ‘Subscription members’, choose the option to add members to your subscription;
- Tap ‘Add a listener under 16’;
- Finally, select ‘Add account’.
Do you want to convert an existing account to a managed account? Spotify also offers this feature, under ‘Subscription members’ you can choose the account you want to convert. Please note, because managed accounts no longer have access to certain parts of Spotify. For example, young listeners can still personalize playlist titles, but not upload images. In addition, you cannot find playlists from young listeners and they cannot look up public playlists either. Playlists can still be shared via a direct link with a managed account.

Benefits for Spotify
Managed accounts make Spotify much safer for young listeners. This protects them against explicit content in songs, videos and Canvas. You can recognize explicit content in Spotify by the ‘E’ below or next to the title of a song. These songs are hidden on managed accounts so that young listeners are not exposed to harmful content. Adding managed accounts is possible directly in Spotify and is a feature that many users have been waiting for for some time.
Spotify’s new feature not only has advantages for young listeners, but also for the account manager. You can now create a special account for your children, for example, so that their listening behavior is not included when forming your listening profile. This way, children’s songs or other songs are not included in your Spotify recommendations and in your Spotify Wrapped overview. Did you find this tip useful? View more about the music service here:
