Spotify now has the mixing tool – major update that makes the app even more fun

Spotify has added a new feature! With the mixing tool, Spotify becomes even more fun, we explain how the new feature works.

Spotify introduces Mixing Tool

A new feature is available in Spotify! The music service has been expanded with the mixing tool, which makes the transition between songs much better. Spotify has had an option for some time to make songs merge faster, by starting the next song a maximum of twelve seconds before the end of a song. You now get many more options, because Spotify has rolled out the mix tool for all users.

Spotify already announced the new function in August, but then did not add the mix tool to the application. That is now the case, so you see a new button above all your playlists. This button is called ‘Mixing’ and ensures that songs merge much better. Spotify does that automatically for you, but you can also mix songs yourself. We tell where you can find the new function in Spotify.

Mixing in Spotify: that’s how it works

Just update! In the latest version of Spotify, all your playlists get a new button. Spotify has added ‘mixing’ to all the playlists that you have created yourself. You cannot mix playlists from other users, even if you have stored them on your phone. The mixing tool is available in Spotify from version 9.0.84. Have you installed the latest software version? Then you will find the new feature as follows:

  1. Open ‘Spotify’ on your smartphone, tablet or computer;

  2. Go to ‘Library’ and choose one of your playlists;

  3. Tap ‘mix’ above the playlist;

  4. Finally, edit every transition by tapping ‘car’ between numbers.

Have you enabled the mixing tool in Spotify with your playlist? Spotify then automatically proposes a mixed transition between each number. You can edit this transition by tapping ‘car’. In that menu you have many opportunities to adjust the music. This way you can set your own preference how the volume changes, what effects the transition has and at what time the next number starts. With the update, Spotify brings many new functions to the app.

More about Spotify

The mixing tool also lets you choose how long the transition between numbers must last. You have the choice between two, four or eight sizes. Spotify indicates that this transition sounds best if songs have about the same pace. Have you edited a transition yourself? You can then save it in your playlist, so that the numbers merge into each other as you have set. It is not (yet) possible to share your own users created. Possibly that option will come later, because it is still a test version of the Mixing Tool from Spotify.

At the bottom of the mixing tool, Spotify offers options like Fade, rise, blend, wave, melt and Slamwho provide different transitions between numbers. Are you curious how they sound? Users can now get started with the new position in Spotify, if you have a paid subscription. The mixing tool is only available for users with Spotify Premium and can be tried out in the most recent version of Spotify. Do you want to know more about the music service?
