Spotify has presented Car Thing. This music player is made for older car models that cannot handle modern entertainment systems such as Apple CarPlay. For the time being, Spotify Car Thing will only appear in the United States.

The originally Swedish Spotify is known for its music service, but is releasing its first physical product with Car Thing. The music player has a touchscreen with a rotary knob for operation.
You can also use the voice control: the music player listens to the “Hey Spotify” command that you can use from iOS 14.5.
Car Thing is a small entertainment system for paying Spotify subscribers. They can use the device to listen to music and podcasts, among other things. You connect the car accessory via a wireless Bluetooth connection or cable (AUX or USB).
According to Spotify, the handy music player is made for relatively old cars that do not support Apple CarPlay and / or Android Auto to have. According to the music service, Car Thing is especially recommended for cars between 11 and 18 years old.
You attach the music player to the dashboard. You can also attach the music player in the ventilation shaft thanks to the supplied clip. At the top of the touchscreen are four buttons that you can set to listen to your favorite songs, playlists or podcasts, for example.
Availability
The compact music player only appears in the United States. Spotify Premium members can temporarily request Car Thing for free and only have to pay the shipping costs. It is not clear whether Spotify will (eventually) also introduce the music player in other countries.
Music player took a long time to arrive
Car Thing is a poorly kept secret. It has been known for years that Spotify is working on a hardware music player. Last week, renders of the device surfaced.
The Swedish music company has had busy months. Recently, for example, Spotify HiFi was introduced, a music subscription with higher sound quality. They also rolled out a major update for Spotify Desktop. Computer users can, for example, download individual music.
