‘Stellantis’ dealer plan starts with premium brands’

Stellantis, the company that emerged from FCA and PSA, is starting the restructuring of its European dealer network with the premium brands from its expanded portfolio.

At least that’s what Reuters news agency says. According to the news agency, Stellantis will terminate all current contracts with European dealers as of June 2023. That does not mean that those companies will all be out of work, but that cooperation with Stellantis will be under different conditions from that moment on.

What the situation should look like from 2023 is not yet certain, but Stellantis would lean towards what it calls an ‘agency model’. That means a sales model comparable to that of Tesla, Polestar and a number of other new brands, where the sales contract is signed with the brand itself instead of a dealer. The dealer is mainly concerned with deliveries and maintenance.

Among the premium brands of Stellantis, we can place Alfa Romeo, DS and the resurgent Lancia in this context. Maserati is reportedly kept out of this structure and a different strategy is being pursued for America. Stellantis has a total of 14 brands and obviously wants to achieve economies of scale by merging them all. Part of those savings, about 7 percent, must be realized by streamlining the sales model.
