Fast electrified Subarus on the way?
The imaginative three-letter combination STI gives Subaru enthusiasts warm feelings in the gut. The STI label may soon be joined by a label specifically intended for Subaru’s fast electrified models.
In the database of the German Patent and Trademark Office Motor1 has turned up an interesting new trademark from Subaru. The German branch of Subaru has registered the designation STe with our eastern neighbors. What exactly is that? That is still unclear, but it could just be a label that Subaru will apply to sportier versions of electrified models. Just like in STI, the letters S and T stand for Subaru Tecnica again. The I in STI ear International has been replaced in the new label by an ‘e’ which most likely refers to something like ‘electrified’ or ‘electric’.
It remains to be seen whether STe will be a label for (mild) hybrid Subarus with extra punch, or whether it will be a label intended for sporty and fully electric models of the brand. Consider, for example, a sporty variant of the electric Subaru Solterra. We are awaiting a response from Subaru.
