Subsidy for electric cars 2022 – these are the conditions and you should pay attention to this

If it is up to The Hague, all cars that will be newly registered by 2030 will be one hundred percent electric. This ambitious plan contributes to the intention to emit 49% less CO2 nationally from that year. The government therefore wants to make electric driving as attractive as possible for private individuals, and has introduced the subsidy scheme in 2020. If you buy or privately lease a new electric car, you can receive a subsidy of 3350 euros. That is less than in 2021, when 4,000 euros was still paid out. The subsidies for second-hand cars will remain at 2,000 euros, just like last year.

Electric car subsidy: the conditions

Before you run to the dealer with your hands up, it’s important to know what to look out for. Not every electric car is eligible for the subsidy amount. He must meet the following conditions:

  • The electric car must be 100% electric. (Plug-in) hybrids therefore do not count. Hydrogen cars do.
  • The range of your new electric car must be at least 120 kilometers.
  • The purchase price must be between 12,000 and 45,000 euros. For used cars, this applies to the original purchase price.
  • Only vehicles produced as electric cars count. A car that has been retrofitted with an electric motor is not eligible for the subsidy.
  • Are you buying an EV? Then you will receive the subsidy amount in one go and you must keep the car for at least 3 years.
  • With private lease you will receive the subsidy per month and a minimum term of 4 years applies.

To make it easy, the government has drawn up a list of all electric cars that will be eligible for the subsidy in 2022. Is there something for you? Then you can apply for the subsidy from Monday 3 January 9:00 a.m. Please note: you are only eligible for the subsidy if you signed the purchase or lease agreement on or after 1 January.

More budget in 2021, but don’t wait too long

Every year, the government sets aside money to pay for all subsidy applications. If the jar is empty, you can no longer apply for a subsidy. In 2020, the reserves were empty after eight days. In 2021 even after one day. To prevent this in 2022, The Hague has increased its budget by a factor of five: to 71 million euros. 20.4 million euros is available for used cars (plus 7 million compared to 2021).

Afraid of fishing behind the net? Then it is advisable to include a resolutive condition in the purchase or lease agreement. If you are still too late with the subsidy application, you can still cancel the purchase or lease.
