Substantial facelift for Buick Encore GX

Buick comes in the US with a major facelift for the compact Buick Encore GX. The genes of that car lead back to ‘our’ Opel Mokka via a small detour.

The first Buick Encore in 2012 was nothing more or less than the Buick version of the first Opel Mokka, which would later go through life as Mokka X and would lose that X again later. Opel now has nothing to do with Buick. The Encore was replaced in 2019, but that model was mainly intended for China. The Americans were presented with a longer variant a little later, the Buick Encore GX. It is premiering today in a modified form.

Buick takes a rigorous approach to the renewal round. We see a completely different front, with a fairly low grille that replaces the one placed between the headlights. The headlights themselves are completely split according to the latest fashion, with the actual dipped beam located in the lower part. We also find the new Buick logo on the nose of the Encore. At the back it remains with a somewhat different layout for light units and bumper, but the dashboard, like the nose, is completely overhauled. According to Buick, the ‘Virtual Cockpit’ screen combination of the Encore GX – 19 inches in total – is the largest in this segment.

The regular, time-honored ‘Opel Mokka-Encore’ will continue to be available in the US, in addition to this larger and more modern GX. For those who want to know: such an 11-year-old model will cost you at least $ 26,100 there.
