Suzuki has announced the price of the new GSX-S1000GT and it is at least as sharp as its styling. The most powerful and lightest SportTour bike in its segment is available from the end of November for 16,499 euros.
We honestly think it’s cool, the new GSX-S1000GT with which Suzuki has launched the attack on Kawasaki’s Ninja 1000 SX. Bold in design, but also fat that Suzuki has now picked up the gauntlet in the once unprecedentedly popular SportTour segment, which seems to have had to make way for more comfortable high-ups in the past decade.
Now there is little to argue with the comfort of a high-powered motorcycle, but a) a sports bike is really much nicer in design and b) try to go on the track with such a high-ranking motorcycle. Sure, it’s possible, but every SportTour feels much better in its element.
According to Suzuki, the GSX-S1000GT offers the best of both worlds: the lightweight aluminum frame, fully adjustable front fork and aluminum swingarm provide a very sporty ride, while the riding position, handlebar position, powerful 999 cc four-cylinder and the 19-litre fuel tank ensures a lot of touring fun.
In other words: the handling characteristics of a Supersport combined with the comfort of a touring bike. Indeed, the very same arguments that Kawasaki puts on the table to also claim that their Ninja 1000 SX is the best of both worlds.
The GSX-S1000GT is derived from the completely renewed GSX-S1000 earlier this year, which we have already extensively tested. The engine, the chassis and the extensive electronics package have been taken over directly, with the difference that Suzuki has gone one step further with this GT, in the form of a 6.5″ TFT color screen with Bluetooth connectivity and the application of cruise control.
That in addition to the adjustable traction control, Suzuki Drive Mode Selector, Low RPM Assist and the up/down quickshifter, to safely put the 152 horses of the 999cc four-in-line to work.
The Suzuki GSX-S1000GT can be viewed at the Suzuki dealer from the end of November. There is a choice of three colors: Metallic Triton Blue, Metallic Reflective Blue and Glass Sparkle Black. The same starting price applies for all colors: € 16,499.
Various accessories are optionally available, including a set of side cases in the color of the motorcycle. These cases have a capacity of 36 liters – spacious enough to fit a helmet – each and match the design of the GSX-S1000GT very well.
