Until now, the Suzuki Jimny only rolled off the production line in Kosai, Japan, but now finds a second birthplace in Gurgaon, India. Maruti Suzuki will now produce the Jimny alongside the Vitara Brezza, Wagon R and Ignis.
International demand for the Suzuki Jimny is high. Very large. So big, in fact, that the sympathetic all-rounder is now also produced by the Indian branch of Suzuki. Maruti Suzuki is adding the Jimny to the production portfolio of its factory in Gurgaon, India. At the beginning of last year rumors surfaced about possible Indian production of the Jimny, rumors that turned out to be based on the truth.
Maruti Suzuki will not only produce the Jimny for the home market, but mainly for export markets. This means that left-hand drive units will soon also leave the factory gates. The regular passenger version of the Jimny is no longer for sale in the Netherlands. From March there will be another Jimny at the dealers, although this is the Jimny Professional. The Jimny Professional is basically a two-seater version of the Jimny.

Whether the personal version of the Jimny will soon return to the Netherlands? Probably not, the Dutch importer expects. Delivery times for the Jimny Professional will undoubtedly be shorter with the arrival of a second production location. Whether the rumors that Maruti Suzuki will also produce a longer five-door version of the Jimny become true, remains to be seen.
