Suzuki unveils new hybrid powertrainSuzukiSuzukiSuzukiSuzukiSuzukiSuzukiSuzukiSuzukiSuzukiSuzukiSuzuki

Suzuki is introducing a completely new powertrain that will debut in the Vitara as early as January 2022. Completely against expectations, it concerns technology completely developed by Suzuki itself, for which it did not have to shop in the Toyota warehouse.

Suzuki already supplies mild-hybrid powertrains in the Ignis, Swift, Vitara and again in the new S-Cross, but Suzuki is still missing any trace of a full hybrid powertrain. At least, from a hybrid powertrain developed by Suzuki itself. The always-hybrid Suzuki Swace and plug-in hybrid Suzuki Across naturally have the powertrains developed by Toyota that are also in the Corolla and RAV4, of which the two cars are twin brothers.

Suzuki’s new Full Hybrid, called hybrid powertrain, consists of a 102 hp 1.5 four-cylinder petrol engine, assisted by a 33 hp electric motor. The system power is 115 hp. The power from the electric motor finds its way directly to the wheels, the power from the petrol engine through a six-speed transmission. This is not a conventional automatic transmission, but a robotized manual gearbox that Suzuki has christened ‘AGS’ (Auto Gear Shift). According to Suzuki, the electric motor smooths out the shifting moments here. The battery pack is located under the luggage compartment and will undoubtedly eat a few liters of luggage space here.

The Full Hybrid will debut in January in the Suzuki Vitara, in the second half of next year the hybrid powertrain will also come to the new s-Cross. The drivetrain can also be combined with Suzuki’s AllGrip all-wheel drive. Prices of the Vitara Full Hybrid are not yet available.
