T-Stand review: high price hits this iPad stand against the chest

If holding an iPad is too much trouble, the T-Stand comes in handy: you can even use this stand for the Apple tablet in landscape mode.

T-Stand review: iPad stand tested

Apple is increasingly marketing the iPad as a versatile device that can be used in all kinds of ways, depending on the accessories you use with it. Click on a Magic Keyboard and the tablet turns into a laptop or use an Apple Pencil to turn it into a drawing tablet.

T-Stand review: high price hits this iPad stand against the chest

The T-Stand wants to expand this list with an iPad holder that you mainly use if you want to operate the tablet as little as possible. The stand is designed so that it can easily be placed on your chest when you are stretched out on the couch or in bed.

This keeps your iPad upright at a nice distance from your face and you can watch a series or movie at your leisure. The double brackets keep the stand stable if you don’t move too much.

From your chest to the desk

By turning the stand, the T-Stand turns into an iPad tripod for a table or desk. This is useful, for example, if you want to raise the tablet just a little bit higher, which can come in handy if you use the iPad as the second screen of your MacBook with the SideCar function. The disadvantage is that you cannot adjust the height, which does not benefit the usability.

The clips that hold the iPad in place are made of soft plastic, so they don’t damage the housing. That’s a good thing, because the elastic in the stand keeps the tablet firmly clamped. The fact that the T-Stand uses a simple rubber band (that you can see well) makes the stand feel a bit cheap.

We are also afraid for the lifespan of this elastic. How long does it take for the stretch to go out of the elastic or for it to snap completely? Due to the hard plastic and no opening, replacement is impossible, which seems to be a considerable risk in view of the lifespan that the makers of the T-Stand have taken with this.

The advantage of the bracket is that you can also use it for all kinds of other devices. An e-reader for example, but also a Nintendo Switch and an iPhone.

Disproportionate suggested retail price

However, there is a big but to this story. With a suggested retail price of 88 euros, the T-Stand is very pricey for something we have never missed until now. You can also put an iPad with a cover upright and it will remain perfectly on your desk and with a few books underneath you can adjust the height yourself.

That makes the T-Stand a solution to a problem that we don’t think exists. Only if you always use an iPad in bed and your arms fall asleep holding the tablet up, you should consider this stand. Even in that case, we think the suggested retail price of 88 euros is very hefty.

Conclusion T-Stand review

The T-Stand is designed for a very specific target group and does what it’s supposed to do: hold your iPad in place when you want to put it on your chest hands-free. But due to the use of a simple rubber band and the very high price of 88 euros, we cannot recommend this standard. Even the discount you get now if you order via Kickstarter for 54 euros, we think it’s still considerable. What this iPad accessory does is simply too limited for that.

The T-Stand is available to pre-order now via Kickstarter (link). The first copies will be sent out gradually.
