WhatsApp is at the top of the list of the 20 highly rated apps among Dutch people, closely followed by well -known names such as Spotify, Chatgpt and Google Maps. It is striking that Teletext, as the only news app, is in the top 5. Read here which else are in the top 20 most popular apps.
The Mobile App Trends Report 2025 of Digital Product Agency Framna, based on independent research among 9,000 users and analysis of 600 apps, shows that there is a big difference between the most installed and the best -rated apps. For example, apps such as Teletext and Chatgpt are not in the top 20 of the most installed apps in the Netherlands, but they do lead the ranking of highly appreciated apps. The reverse also applies: social media apps are often installed, but are not among the best-rated apps. Essential for a high user rating are the drivers ‘makes life easier’ and ‘delivers great content’.
Daily simplicity wins from entertainment
The top 20 most popular apps contains even more surprising names such as HomeWizard, Flitsmeister and Vinted. The fastest rising app is chatgpt, which is relatively new. The research shows that Dutch people mainly appreciate apps that make their daily lives easier. Apps for communication, navigation, news, payments and groceries lead the list.
WhatsApp: The digital junction
WhatsApp is by far the most popular app and fulfills a unique double role: indispensable for both private conversations and business communication via WhatsApp Business. Customer service, reports, such as appointment memories, and internal communication are increasingly going through this platform – proof of the deep integration into the daily lives of Dutch people.
Generations choose differently
The report shows clear generation differences. Young people (Gen Z and Millennials) mainly use apps focused on experience, convenience and social interaction. For example, considerably more often use social media apps. Older generations (Gen X and Baby Boomers) prefer practical apps for information, navigation and banking matters.
