Tesla confirms the arrival of cheap EV

None other than Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirms the arrival of a fully electric model that should cost around $ 25,000. Musk made the announcement last night during Battery Day, an event where the manufacturer took a look into the future.

Tesla’s Elon Musk said during Battery Day that Tesla is developing a new model that should be priced at around $ 25,000, or around € 21,500. The new model must use a new type of battery that Tesla says it has developed. These battery packs are made up of ‘cells’ that have to be a lot more efficient due to different use of materials. Tesla hopes to be able to significantly reduce the price of the battery pack. According to Tesla, the price per kWh dropped from $ 1,100 to about $ 150 between 2010 and 2019. But that is not yet low enough, it turns out.

The as yet unnamed newcomer, about which Tesla also barely releases any information, must in any case have technology that will make the car fully autonomous. It is not known on what basis the new model will be developed. Volkswagen CEO Ralf Brandstätter recently made an interesting statement to Techzle. According to Brandstätter, no collaboration has been discussed between Volkswagen and Tesla to date, but Brandstätter is certainly not saying that a collaboration is out of the question. “Until now there have been no discussions about it, but I think it is certainly an interesting idea,” Brandstätter told Techzle. That does not mean that you should immediately bet on the arrival of a compact Tesla based on MEB, but if it were up to Volkswagen, the door seems to be wide open for a future partnership.
