Obstacles Overcome
Good news for Tesla: the gates of its Gigafactory in Berlin finally opens its gates today. None other than Tesla CEO Elon Musk opens the factory that, if it had been up to various environmental clubs, would never have come into operation.
Tesla’s European Gigafactory Grünheide, near Berlin, finally opens its gates today, Reuters reports. This seems to have officially ended the obstacles that Tesla created. Various environmental organizations protested, as did local residents, against the opening of the large European production facility.
Tesla will produce the Model Y in its European factory. During the opening ceremony, none other than Tesla CEO Elon Musk will be on hand to present the first factory-built Models Y to customers. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will also make an appearance during the opening ceremony.
Ultimately, Tesla wants to produce about 500,000 cars in its German factory every year. The first pile was driven into the ground in 2019, and the factory should have been put into operation in the summer of 2021, according to the original plans. The construction of the factory involved an investment of about €5 billion.
