Tesla makes playing games while driving impossible

Earlier this week it was announced that the American road safety watchdog NHTSA wants to conduct a major investigation into gaming while driving in Teslas. The brand seems to want to be ahead of this and makes driving gaming impossible with an update.

Tesla ensures that the special game function is now turned off while driving. The electric car manufacturer has informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The US supervisory parent intended to start an investigation into the application due to security concerns.

Since last year, approximately 580,000 Teslas sold since 2017 have been able to play games on the touchscreen directly next to the driver while driving. According to the NHTSA, this function, called Passenger Play, increased the risk of accidents because it could distract drivers of the cars.

Tesla has now informed the NHTSA that a software update will lock the feature so that it is unusable when the car is in motion. Whether this change also affects Teslas outside the US is not clear. The company has not yet released a statement. Earlier, Mercedes mother Daimler already recalled several cars to the garage in the US because it was possible to watch TV or use the internet via the infotainment system while driving.
