Only for business customers
Yes, we know, you are inundated with Tesla messages. Yet there is nothing else to do, because there is yet more news to report. After all, the Tesla Model 3, which has just been reduced in price, is also available again as a Long Range with only rear-wheel drive. In concrete terms, this means more range than a regular Long Range, but for less money. There is a business catch, however.
The Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD is a now largely forgotten version that was offered for a few months in 2019. Even then, this was the ‘golden mean’ for many people: the large battery of the regular Long Range, but not its extra electric motor. With its speed and price, an LR RWD is therefore somewhere between the (at the time still called SR +) basic version and the regular Long Range, but due to its higher efficiency it gets further on a full battery than any other variant. The LR RWD was a version for the connoisseurs, because it could never be found in Tesla’s configurator. Tesla presented it as a so-called ‘off-menu’ option, which you could only order by passing that wish on to a Tesla Store.
At the end of 2019, Tesla took this variant of the Model 3 off the market and has not been heard from since. Until now, because in an email to business customers, Tesla announces the reintroduction of the Long Range RWD. The new Tesla Model 3 LR RWD has a WLTP range of 634 kilometers, we read there. Even more than before, because then this model got stuck at 600 kilometers. For comparison: a new Long Range AWD comes 602 kilometers away, a rear-wheel drive with the smaller battery 491.
Business only
The Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD already has a price: €45,990. That is as usual with Tesla without delivery costs, so count on €46,993 including those mandatory costs. This makes the rear-wheel drive €4,000 cheaper than an AWD and €4,000 more expensive than an entry-level Model 3. Exactly in between, but there is a big ‘but’. The Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD is for the time being purely intended for the business market. As usual, it is therefore not in the configurator, you can only order it via the leasing company or the Tesla 4 Business account manager.
New Model S and Model X prices
While we’re at it: the prices of the Model S and Model X have also been reduced. The Model S Long Range drops from €114,990 to €104,990 (all excluding delivery costs), the lightning-fast Plaid from €139,990 to €129,990. With the Model X we note €113,990 for the Long Range and €133,990 for the Plaid. The fast calculator has already figured it out: across the board €10,000 is deducted.
