Tesla Model Y is the world’s best-selling EV

Possible new Gigafactory on the way

Tesla Model Y is the world’s best-selling EV

The Tesla Model Y is by far the most popular new electric car in Europe. According to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the Model Y will soon become the best-selling EV in the world, but the predictions of well-spoken CEO are even rosier than that.

Earlier, Tesla shot straight into the sales rose with the Model 3 and the brand is also doing very good business with the Model Y. The more spacious brother of the Model 3 sold about 17,000 times in Europe in June, making it the most popular electric car in Europe that month. If Tesla’s factories in Texas and the European production facility near Berlin are running at full speed, the Model Y should be the best-selling electric car in the world next year, according to Musk. That is what the CEO says during the annual shareholders’ meeting. Tesla is currently fully focused on building the Model Y in those two production facilities.

According to Musk, the Tesla Model Y is even well on its way to become the best-selling car worldwide, so not purely the best-selling EV. In 2021, the Toyota RAV4 was the best-selling car in the world with 1,132,000 sold, although there are also sources that say that the Corolla was the best-selling car in the world again last year. Musk acknowledges that there are still “[…] there is a lot of work to do and problems to be solved” to solve the “tens of thousands of problems” it currently faces – including in the supply chain. In addition, the CEO says “possibly this year” the arrival of a new Gigafactory announces.
