Just under €50,000
The Tesla Model Y is now also available as a Model Y RWD. That rear-wheel drive version just eats €16,000 off the starting price. However, the difference is even greater, since the Long Range and Performance are just a bit more expensive than before.
Until now, Tesla only offered the Model Y in our country as Long Range and Performance: two four-wheel drive variants that until recently cost €65,990 and €70,000 respectively. Now it pushes the Rear Wheel Drive to the bottom of the range. It will be available from €49,990, with which the starting price of the more spacious brother of the Model 3 drops by no less than €16,000 in one fell swoop. However, the difference with the other two versions is even greater, because both the Long Range and Performance are increasing in price. The Model Y Long Range now costs €68,345, just under €3,000 more and more than €18,000 more than the RWD, the Performance will be more than €1,000 more expensive with a new price of €71,005.
All prices are as usual at Tesla excluding delivery costs. The actual starting price of the Model Y is therefore €50,995, but the differences remain.
Less fast and less far
Unlike the other two variants, the Tesla Model Y Rear Wheel Drive has only one electric motor, which drives the rear wheels. You will notice that in the performance, of course, because the Model Y RWD (which is simply called Model Y in the order list) needs 6.9 seconds to shoot from 0 to 100 km/h. The Long Range and Performance do that in succession in 5 and 3.7 seconds. The range is also lower, with 430 to 455 km, depending on the chosen wheels. The Long Range comes to 565 km and the Performance 514 km. Finally, you also have less charging power, 170 kW instead of 250 kW. The top speed of the Tesla Model Y RWD is 217 km/h, just like with the Long Range. The Tesla Model Y Performance reaches 250 km/h.
The Tesla Model Y RWD can be ordered immediately for €49,990. The first copies are expected in December of this year and will come from Tesla’s Gigafactory in China. Undoubtedly later copies come from the German factory near Berlin.
It is remarkable that the most recent Tesla Model Y is now cheaper than the cheapest Tesla Model 3, which is also listed as an unnamed rear-wheel drive for €51,990 (excluding delivery costs).
