Tesla must shut down production in California

Because of the corona virus, Tesla has been forced to stop production at the Fremont plant by the local authorities in California as it is not an “essential activity”.

The Almeda County Sheriff’s Office announced this on Twitter on Wednesday. Model S, Model X, Model 3 and Model Y are assembled in Fremont. It is not known how long the interruption lasts.

Earlier this week, Tesla reported that it had started delivering the new Model Y earlier than expected. It is not yet clear to what extent this will cause delays. The popular Tesla Model 3 in the Netherlands last year also rolls off the production line in Fremont.

The factory in Shanghai, which opened at the end of last year, is already running again. Production was interrupted there for ten days in February. The Model 3 will be built in China and, in time, the new Model Y.
