Tesla owner arrested after charging at lamppost

An owner of a Tesla Model 3 thought he could drive for free by charging the electric car at a lamppost. The local police thought otherwise.

With the high energy costs, driving an electric car is no longer as affordable for many as it used to be. Emergency knows no law, the driver of a Tesla Model 3 in Oud-Beijerland apparently thought. The Model 3 was found by officers on the side of the road in a business park and was connected to the power box of a lamppost with an extension cord. There is no real fast charging, but you do not have to pay for it. It is highly illegal, of course. The police therefore report on Instagram with the photos that the owner was taken to the station for text and explanation.

There is a good chance that the owner will face a hefty fine or other punishment. You can be fined up to €100,000 for ‘electricity fraud’ and prison sentences of up to four years are sometimes handed out, it reports. AD. Since there is probably no question of systematically tapping power, it will probably not go that fast, but it will undoubtedly still be an expensive charging session.
