Teufel Real Blue NC – Headphones run smoothly

Apart from the noise reduction, the Real Blue and Real Blue NC headphones are identical. Both the design and sound quality. So if you are in the market for Teufel headphones, it is up to you whether you want to pay a little more money for this function. We test the noise suppression version.

Teufel Real Blue headphones

The headphones go completely over the ear (over-ear) and close comfortably on the head with soft cushions. This also allows the noise suppression to work optimally. You connect the headphones via Bluetooth via the minijack connection. Handy, that gives you the option to prefer better sound quality via a cable or to continue listening when the battery is empty.

The buttons and connections are incorporated in the ear cups: the left ear cup offers space for the audio connection, USB-C charging connection and the power button. On the right side you will find control buttons, such as the button to turn noise cancellation on and off and a gear stick. You can press these to pause and resume the music, move sideways for the next or previous song, and move vertically to control the volume.

This poker is not new and we encountered it before on the Teufel Airy headphones. It provides such ease of use that you would actually wish that every headset was equipped with it.

The Teufel Real Blue comes with a storage box. To place the headphones, turn the ear cups sideways. However, you will notice that the headphones feel very vulnerable and not high-quality. The housing of the headphones consists entirely of fairly thin plastic, including the ear cups. It doesn’t really give the feeling of headphones from a brand that is quite highly regarded as Teufel.

You also don’t feel like you’re holding a pair of $170 headphones in your hands. Let alone 230 euros for the variant with noise reduction.

Teufel headphones in practice

Although microphones are used for noise reduction technology, these are also simply present on the version of the headphones without noise reduction. In addition to audio, you can also use the headphones without any problems for speech in, for example, telephone conversations or video meetings.

The noise reduction of the headphones filters out quite a bit of sound, without you experiencing a pressing feeling on the ears. However, there is still a lot that can be heard in your environment, such as conversations and unexpected noises. As a result, it is still a bit difficult with noise suppression to completely shut yourself off with noise suppression. If this technique is of great importance to you, then headphones from Sony and Bose are a better option.

There is also a transparency mode, which captures and amplifies ambient noise. As a result, you are more aware of your surroundings, so that you notice when someone starts talking to you or can move through traffic less unsafely. This function works fine, although ambient noise can sometimes sound a bit ‘mechanical’.

Sound quality

With audio equipment from Teufel you actually already know in advance that the sound quality is perfectly fine. These Real Blue headphones are no exception either, the sound is especially well-balanced. As a result, all sound details come into their own, making the headphones suitable for versatile use: from music to meetings and podcasts. Still, the sound lacks some power, especially in the bass sound. Fortunately, you can correct this somewhat in the equalizer.

The headphones have good stamina. Between 35 and 40 hours when the noise canceling is on. When this is off you can even listen for 50 hours. Enough for long trips (when that is finally allowed again) and long working weeks.

app

The Teufel Headphones app for android and iOS you can use it to adjust your headphones to your liking. Here you will find, for example, the equalizer, the option to turn on voice assistance and check for firmware updates.

Alternatives to the Teufel Real Blue NC

The Teufel Real Blue NC is certainly a good pair of headphones that will not disappoint you. Still, there are better alternatives on the market for a comparable price, which kind of knocks out the raison d’être under the headphones. The Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones are better on all fronts, including noise reduction and have a price that fluctuates around 180 euros. Also Bose QuietComfort Headphones are also available for a comparable price for those looking for the best noise reduction.

Conclusion: buy Teufel Real Blue NC?

The Teufel Real Blue and the NC variant are both excellent headphones, with pleasant sound, wonderful wearing comfort and a long battery life. The variant with noise reduction also does what you expect. Despite its wearing comfort, the headphones feel a bit cheap and not very sturdy. The biggest point, however, is the price. The Real Blue headphones are in the same price range as Sony and Bose. Both of which actually offer better alternatives with comparable price tags.
