According to Car brand Ford, Apple is planning to add Tesla Superchargers to its route function for electric cars in cards. That predicts good news for Apple fans with a Tesla.
Routes for electric cars in Apple Cards
Since the first version, Apple can calculate tickets routes for (almost) all over the world. But the requirements for a route with an electric car are completely different than with a normal car. Where with gasoline and diesel you simply want the fastest route and in between decide when you start refueling, that is a bit more nuanced with a battery in your car. Hereby it is much more important that you plant intermediate stops in advance and that your map app knows how much battery you still have. With a bit of bad luck you are otherwise with a breakdown (empty battery) next to the highway.
That is why Apple with iOS 14 in 2020 introduced a special function of cards for electric cars. This includes all kinds of factors in the route calculation and of course stops are scheduled at suitable charging stations. However, since the first release, Apple has not worked much about the position, but now late car manufacturer and Tesla competitor Ford there something about loose.

Ford tells a secret about electric cars in Apple cards
Ford was started in the beginning of the EV routing function of Apple cards. The first car with support was, for example, the Ford Mustang Mach-e. But so far, the route function for electric cars from Apple cards still had a big loss: there were quite a few charging points, including the Superchargers from Tesla. Recently, Ford cars can also use Tesla’s Superchargers, and that is why the car manufacturer is now releasing something about it in connection with cards.
According to Ford, support will soon be added for Tesla Superchargers within Apple cards. Tesla has built up one of the largest loading networks worldwide, so that’s good news. However, there is still a snag.
Compatibility with electric cars is limited
After the Ford Mustang Mach-e, support came for the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Porsche Taycan. But strangely enough, it was already in terms of supported car models. So soon Apple will support the Tesla Superchargers in cards, but if you drive in a Tesla, you should not use it.
Bee iPhoned Do we have the idea that this situation will change in the near future. Because Apple and Tesla have been getting better together lately. Apple also seems to want to build a better relationship with Elon Musk – possibly because he now has an important position within the US government. There are plans to advertise on X again. There is a good chance that Apple now also decides to include Tesla’s in Apple cards. Or, if it works the other way, Tesla will work together with cards. Anyway, the first step for supporting Tesla’s in Apple cards has already been taken with the support of the Superchargers.
