DS Automobiles has dusted off an old study model from 2016 and put a new powertrain in it. The result is this 816 hp DS E-Tense Performance. It doesn’t stop at one copy; you can actually buy the electric supercar. Exactly 102 copies will be available. If dubious NFT, then again …

An NFT – or Non-Fungible Token – is little more than a link to a digital object (an image, for example). It is very difficult to explain what exactly an NFT is, but simply put it is a kind of certificate of ownership. The strange thing is, when you buy an NFT, you only own the certificate, not the object it belongs to. That you own the NFT is recorded in a huge public database, the blockchain. Everyone can see the status of the NFT, but no one can change it.

NFTs not regulated and prone to fraud and scams
The tricky part is that the market for NFT is unregulated and so many scammers are active. In addition, the value of an NFT is questionable. If you buy the ‘certificate of ownership’ of a digital image, then you are not really the owner and you do not have the rights to it. You have the link to the original, but anyone can and can just reproduce it. Did you pay 8000 euros for it? The question is whether you will ever see that money again. Because we just have to wait and see if someone wants your artificially scarce NFT? And for what amount?
DS E-Tense Performance really takes to the public road
Anyway, the DS E-Tense Performance … We already know the study model from 2016, but now it has a different powertrain, with two electric motors, a total power of 816 hp and 8000 Nm of torque. According to DS, there is a lot of Formula E technology in the car and actual tests will be done with it. Starting this month, Formula E drivers Jean-Éric Vergne and Antonio Felix da Costa will take the E-Tense Performance to both the road and the track with the E-Tense Performance. And you don’t see that happening often with a prototype like this…

Someone has already bid $400 for a DS E-Tense NFT
The NFT story then. There will be 100 units of the DS E-Tense Performance 100 Series – 100% Electric and just two of the DS E-Tense Performance 100 Series – 0-100kph in 2s. They will be up for auction here in the coming weeks and can be used as race cars in a video game. At the time of writing, the first two auctions have started. For the first 100 Series – 100% Electric, of which 100 will be offered, about $400 has already been offered. The auction of the first 100 Series – 0-100kph in 2s will last until the end of March and now stands at over 200 euros.
