The 10 most popular cars from the Private Lease Comparer

The Private Lease Comparer can be described as Carbase for private lease. Here you can easily compare the rates of different providers per model, which is of course very useful if you are in the market for a new private lease car. The rise of private lease started with the smallest cars, but slowly but surely we see the share of private lease increasing in the higher segments as well.

This trend is clearly visible in the top 10 cars most searched for in the Private Lease Comparer. There are even no A-segmenters in the list this year, because last year’s Fiat 500 has now disappeared. The smallest model is now the Peugeot 208. The other nine are all above it, also in the ranking by the way. Of course there is a big role for SUVs and crossovers. As many as seven out of ten fall into that category, with the Kia EV6 being the most questionable. That Kia symbolizes two more trends in this list: EVs, and the great supremacy of Korean brands.

Kia and Hyundai together account for four of the ten models, including the top 2. Of course the Private Lease list is partly a reflection of the most popular cars in the Netherlands, so it is logical that the Kia Niro is also at the top here. A lot more striking is the presence of the Kia Stonic, which in terms of sales ‘only’ makes it to 26th place. Here we see one of the advantages of private lease: the residual value is included in the monthly amount. An entry-level Stonic costs under the same conditions, with the same engine and the same equipment, exactly the same as the entry-level version of the hatchback brother Rio, and then the choice is of course quickly made for many people.

The Volvo XC40 also continues to do remarkably well, with the extensive range of different powertrains (including electric) as with the Niro and Kona undoubtedly playing a major role. Together with the EV6, the XC40 is one of the more expensive cars on the list. The car that should not be missing from that list is the Tesla Model 3. The success of 2019 will never be equaled again, but Tesla’s smallest has not yet been forgotten by the Netherlands.
