Of course, it is nothing new that Apple products are generally quite expensive, but these 12 products take the cake!
12 Most Ridiculously Expensive Apple Products
It’s no secret that Apple is not a cheap brand and anyone who buys Apple knows what they get. Yet ridiculously expensive Apple products have also appeared with some regularity. We show you 12, starting with the most accessible and ending with the most expensive product in Apple’s history.
12. Apple cleaning cloth (2021)

The cheapest overpriced Apple product is the cleaning cloth of 2021. For 25 euros you get a 16 × 16 cm cloth made of non-abrasive material with which you can remove fingerprints from your Apple screen. Although 25 euros may be negligible for some people, the product is still objectively too expensive compared to comparable microfiber cloths from other manufacturers.
11. Apple Crossbody Cord (2025)

In September, Apple introduced the iPhone 17 series, along with an all-new crossbody cord. The product costs 69 euros, is made from recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and ensures that you can wear your iPhone on your body in combination with a compatible Apple protective case (from 59 euros). Of course, there are also countless alternatives available for a fraction of the price.
10. Apple iPhone Pocket (2025)

This Apple product is the reason for this list: the Apple iPhone Pocket. For only 160 or 250 euros you could buy the short or long version of this fashion item. The iPhone Pocket is now actually sold out. The iPhone Pocket is a special edition in collaboration with Issey Miyake, the design studio of the late Japanese designer of the same name who designed Steve Jobs’ trademark: the black turtleneck. Yet it is little more than a 3D knitted case for the iPhone that you can wear or attach to your bag.
9. Apple Pro Stand (2019)

The Pro Stand for the Pro Display XDR was introduced in 2019 and costs no less than 1099 euros. Of course, there is no justification for an aluminum stand being as expensive as an iPhone, no matter how versatile it is.
8. Apple Vision Pro (2024)

It was known that the Apple Vision Pro would be expensive. Still, the introductory price during WWDC 2023 was higher than expectations at $3,499 (3,999 euros). It may be a reasonable price for a first-generation advanced spatial computer. But given that it still can’t replace a Mac and given the limitations of visionOS, it’s safe to say that the ambitious headset is ridiculously expensive.
7. Macintosh XL (1985)

In 1985, the Macintosh XL was not a new Mac, but a reuse of the failed Apple Lisa. You could buy it at the time for $3,995, which would be about $12,000 today (taking inflation into account). Considering the original Lisa (see #2) sold for $9,995, the Macintosh XL was downright affordable and even sold quite well. However, it was withdrawn from the market four months later.
6. iMac Pro (2017)

Apple launched the iMac Pro in 2017, a more powerful version of the iMac that was aimed at professionals with particularly high demands. It was equipped with high-quality components, including an Intel Xeon processor with up to 18 cores, a 5K screen and an AMD Vega graphics card, but also cost 5499 euros. Initial rumors said the device might cost $17,000. Customers were pleasantly surprised when they heard that the maximum version (including Final Cut Pro X and Logic Pro X) cost ‘only’ 16,146 euros.
5. Mac for the 20th Anniversary (1997)

In honor of its 20th anniversary in 1997, Apple produced 12,000 units of the Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh (TAM) to showcase Apple’s design sense. This high-end device had a flat display and a Bose sound system, but was one of the company’s most expensive devices at $7,499 (about $14,600 today). The Mac was so futuristic that Apple even delivered it to customers in a limousine. However, it only sold out when Apple dropped the price to $1,995.
4. Apple Watch in 18 carat gold (2015)

In 2015, Apple released the 18-carat gold Apple Watch Edition for an absurd amount of $17,000. It was exactly the same watch as the $349 (or 399 euro) version and was outdated again a few years later. Apple still focuses on the wealthier part of the world population with its smartwatches, but Hermès’ high-end models cost a maximum of 2099 euros, which is a lot easier to digest.
3. Macintosh Portable (1989)

If you think the 16-inch Macbook Pro is expensive, you should know that the 1989 Macintosh Portable cost a whopping $7,300. That equates to about $18,500 today. Although it was technically ‘portable’, it weighed more than 7 kilos and had a battery life of about 10 hours. It was an important step towards the PowerBook and MacBook, but due to its high price it was not accepted by the general public, leading Apple to discontinue it in 1991.
2. Lisa (1983)

Introduced in 1983 for $9,995 (over $31,000 today), Lisa was one of Apple’s first desktop computers. Due to the exorbitantly high price, Lisa’s sales figures did not meet expectations. So Apple buried 2,700 Lisa devices in a landfill and released the Macintosh series a few years later at a lower price.
1. Mac Pro (2019)

The most expensive cheese grater in the world! In 2019, a year before the start of the M-chip era, Apple released a modular Mac Pro tower for power users. In the highest configuration, the computer with an Intel processor cost approximately 64,000 euros without a screen. This may make it the most expensive product that Apple will ever put on the market, now that the plan for a self-driving car has been scrapped. In any case, it is the most expensive of the 12 Apple products on this list. Today, the latest full-featured Mac Pro with M2 Ultra costs just $14,299, a significant drop from $64,000.
