The airtag has a new feature (which is perfect for your vacation)

Apple has given the airtag a new function in iOS 18.2 and it is useful if you go on holiday soon. We show how it works.

The airtag has a new function

One of the most popular applications of the airtag is the use as a luggage tracker. Airlines lose luggage daily and thanks to the airtag you have a simple way to find your suitcases quickly. Recently, Apple has made this application even better with a new function called ‘part Object location’. In the search my app you can now temporarily share the location of an airtag or other item with someone else.

The beauty of this new function of the airtag is a special component for airlines. Apple cooperates with airlines to integrate airtag support into their customer service. If your luggage, you can in fact temporarily share the location of an airtag with the airline, so that they can find it faster. As soon as you have your luggage back, the location link of the airline is also automatically eliminated.

This is how the new function works

If your airtag or another device with search me during a trip, you can follow the next steps to find the device again.

• Open the search my app on your iPhone, iPad or Mac;
• Tap the ‘Objects’ tab;
• Select the airtag or another search -touched object;
• Scroll down and tap ‘Share Object Location’;
• Follow the instructions to activate the sharing.

You now get a URL that you can share with the airline, so that they can also follow the airtag itself. Every airline has its own method for sharing the link, but in general airlines offer an option for sharing as part of their customer service. The airlines that are currently supporting the new function of the airtag are:
