The App Store Gems of Week 14: Skyshowtime, Dark Noise and more

Every week at One More Thing we highlight a number of apps that would not look out of place on your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch. For your convenience, we will list these App Store Pearls at the end of the week.

From underrated streaming services to creating your own background sound, there was a lot to find on the App Store again this week.

The App Store Pearls of Week 14 2023

We were able to edit videos with CapCut on our iPhone, and watch movies and series on SkyShowtime on the iPad. With Dark Noise you set the tone of your life. Serializd turns you into a real serial critic, and eventually you can work that out in audio form with Spotify for Podcasters. Read more below.

#1 CapCut

Editing videos, whether for posting online, just for fun, or sharing with your friends and family, is made easy with CapCut on your iPhone and iPad. The app contains all the features you would expect from a video editor.

In addition, there are also the text-to-speech and speech-to-text functions that generate voices and subtitles respectively. With a Pro subscription you get access to Cloud storage and more effects. Read more about the app here.

#2 Sky Showtime

SkyShowtime’s iPhone and iPad app lets you watch a very wide catalog of movies and series. With content from Universal, Dreamworks, Paramount and Nickelodeon, this streaming service is definitely worth checking out. And that too for 7 euros per month, or 55 euros for a one-year subscription. Read Wednesday’s article for more information.

#3 DarkNoise

With Dark Noise you can create your own Soundscapes to relax with. While you’ll need to purchase a subscription to get the most out of the app, this iPhone app helps give sound to your life. The exact prices can be read here (among others).

#4 Serializd

Like a kind of Letterboxd for series, Serializd on your iPhone allows you to keep track of which episodes, seasons and series in general you have seen. You can then create ratings and lists, and write reviews to share with the community. What else is possible with Serializd can be read here.

#5 Spotify for Podcasters

To close out the week there was this iPhone app that can turn anyone into a podcaster. Edit your podcasts wherever you are, with the opportunity to monetize it too. To get a more complete picture of this app, you can read more here.
