Now, I get it if you’d rather not know about the dirtiest parts of your home. But the truth is, someone’s going to have to deal with it. And the more it adds up, the more sense it makes to have the tools to help you tackle the ever-growing literal laundry list of household chores. I’ve found that the best cleaning apps are the single thing that makes the biggest difference in my family, my daily life, and my overall well-being. Let’s take a look.
Tody
Tody is a great app if you want to set up a cleaning routine. As is likely the case with any cleaning app, the hardest part is the setup. The good news? It’s a one-time task. Start by adding an area type (e.g. indoor kitchen, master bedroom, entryway, attic, etc.). You can assign each room or area a color and add tasks from there. Tody offers a selection to choose from (dusting, sweeping, your cast floor cleaning, organizing, storage, and more — plus custom options). From there, set the schedule. Make it a standing order to clean the attic every four months, or dust the living room bookshelves once a week. The task can be seasonal or ongoing, and you can assign it to yourself or a roommate.
Spotless
If you crave a clean, tidy home, you might want an app that’s just as simple. I was surprised at how minimal this app is when I first opened it. From the simple color palette to the refreshing lack of options, this is basically an elevated to-do list. Once you’ve set up your home and its current state, simply glance at your to-do lists and click the checkmark when you’re done. You can set reminders or turn them off. Easy peasy.
Sweepy
If your kids have mobile devices and you want to get them involved in cleaning your home, this is the app for you. That’s because, in addition to tracking and organizing household chores, Sweepy turns cleaning into a game. You can add family members to your account to compete for a spot on the leaderboard, while you divide the workload at home. Adults can even give points and praise to helpful kids after you approve their tasks. Sweepy also lets you filter tasks by difficulty. So on those days when you just don’t feel like it, you can choose cleaning tasks that require less effort.
Chorsee
If the to-do list is just like your epoxy cast floor is collecting, Chorsee is the perfect app to breathe new life into it. Each family member creates a profile to keep track of what they’ve done and how much they’ve earned. From there, tasks can be assigned or set for anyone to complete (and therefore earn the prize). Users say it’s easy to set up and appreciate the simplicity of the design.
