The best hacks for iPhone: 4 tips
There are plenty of tricks hidden in iOS on your iPhone that are hardly described anywhere. Sometimes you run into this by accident, but often you don’t. In these iPhone hacks, we’ll show you some of these tips. You should definitely try these handy tricks!
1. Create your own voice commands (with a gesture)
Siri can do a lot, but not everything. The voice assistant is very useful, did you know that you can also create your own gestures (gestures) voice commands on your iPhone and iPad? This allows you to use your phone completely hands-free. Useful to browse a recipe while cooking or skip to the next TikTok video while washing dishes. You do this in the following way.
Create custom voice commands on iPhone and iPad
- Tap Settings > Accessibility, scroll down and tap Voice Control;
- Switch on the slider at ‘Voice control’ and set the ‘Language’ to ‘English’;
- Tap ‘Customize commands’ and ‘Custom’;
- Tap ‘Create new command…’ and type in the text box below sentence ‘Next’;
- Tap ‘Task’ and ‘Perform custom gesture’;
- Make the swipe you want to perform, such as a swipe to the left, then tap Save > Previous > Save.
During step 7, you make the swipe that your iPhone should perform when you give the voice command. You can use it for any app, but each app has its own gestures. So you have to decide in advance which swipe you want to enter.
For example, if you want to browse through a recipe, you make a short swipe from bottom to top. Now when you yell “next,” your iPhone will do the swipe and scroll through the recipe. Incidentally, there is no support for Dutch voice commands yet. Maybe that will come in the future.
2. Lockscreen: Disable Control Center and Message Center
On your lockscreen, open the control panel from the top right corner with a swipe down. With a swipe up, the message center will appear. All this while your iPhone is actually still ‘locked’.
Do you ever let your iPhone swing and don’t want others to see this control panel or the message center? Then simply disable these options with this tip from our iPhone hacks. You do this in the following way:
- Tap Settings > Face ID & Passcode;
- Enter your passcode and scroll all the way down;
- Turn off the options at ‘Notification center’ and ‘Control panel’;
3. Quick copy and paste
If you normally want to copy and paste a text, you must first select a sentence. Then tap ‘Copy’ in the black bar. Then press and hold your finger where you want to paste the text and choose ‘Paste’. This is quite cumbersome and all too often the black toolbar disappears too quickly and you have to tap again.
There is an easier way to copy and paste. Select the desired text and pinch with three fingers. The text ‘copy’ appears briefly at the top of the screen. This shows that the swipe has worked. Then tap where you want to paste the text and make a spreading movement with three fingers. The text will then appear in the chosen position.
4. Take photos while shooting a video
Sometimes you want to take a photo while making a video. You can then temporarily pause the video, but that is cumbersome. This last tip from our hacks will get around this problem and simply snap a photo on your iPhone while shooting the video!
- Open the ‘Camera’ app and swipe to ‘video’;
- Drag the red button to the right (in the white circle that just appeared);
- You are now making a video, but every time you press the white button, a photo is also taken;
- Tap the stop button to stop the video;
- The video and photos are in the ‘Photos’ app.
