1. Forgot Christmas cards? Send them via WhatsApp!

If you forgot to send Christmas cards this year, it is a good idea to still send your Christmas greetings via WhatsApp Messenger. You can use GIFs or Christmas videos for this, so that the whole thing becomes something special. You do it as follows:

  • Open WhatsApp and go to the chat in which you want to send your Christmas greetings;
  • Tap on the sticker (the square with the folded corner);
  • Tap the gif button and then the magnifying glass to the left;
  • Enter a search term and choose an image.

If you want more options, install the free app GIPHY: The GIF Search Engine. There you will not only find nice gifs, but also many funny Christmas videos. The app also comes with a GIF keyboard. You activate this once as follows: ‘Settings>General>Keyboard>Keyboards>Add Keyboard>Giphy’.

On the next screen, tap Giphy and set the switch behind ‘Grant full access’ to green. You can then open the Giphy gifs keyboard via the globe on your keyboard – just like you open the emoji keyboard.

2. Avoid traffic jams, use Waze!

At Christmas, many people leave for their families at the same time, so it can sometimes be surprisingly busy on the road. Naturally, you want to drive to your destination in a relaxed manner and certainly not get stuck in a traffic jam. That’s exactly true Waze navigation and live traffic can help you.

Enter your destination well in advance and Waze will immediately show you at which times you are most and least likely to encounter traffic jams. So you can adjust your departure time accordingly. Once on the road, Waze keeps an eye on whether the planned route is still the best. For example, if there has been an accident somewhere, Waze will simply guide you around it. This way you always arrive relaxed with your family!

3. Stream fireside to your TV

There is nothing more cozy at Christmas than a crackling fire. At the same time, it is very unhealthy and not pleasant for your immediate neighbors. A digital version that you play on the TV is therefore an excellent alternative. With the app Virtual Fireplace In HD you create a digital fire on your iPhone, which you can easily stream to your (Apple) TV.

To stream, open the Control Center by swiping down from the top right of the screen. There you will see ‘Synchronous display’ (the icon with two rectangles). Tap this and you will then see all devices that support Apple AirPlay. Tap the desired device to start streaming or casting.

Christmas is also inextricably linked to candles. If you need it, you can also light a digital candle just like the fireplace above. You do that with the app Night Light · relaxing videos. Streaming works the same way again.

4. Make funny videos with JibJab

Apps like JibJab: Holiday Videos & AI and ElfYourself are anything but new, but the videos you make with them still make you laugh. Grandfathers and grandmothers in particular enjoy these types of videos, so they are ideal if you are with your family at Christmas. Install the app, take or choose a photo, select a video and watch the result together!

5. This is how you take the best Christmas photos

During Christmas you often have to deal with little light, perhaps even only candlelight. That’s definitely something to keep in mind when taking Christmas photos. With these tips they will certainly succeed!

  • Turn off the flash. Christmas photos have more to do with atmosphere than clarity. A flash only takes care of the latter. If you really need more light, then any other external light source is a better idea than the flash.
  • Use night mode. This is available from the iPhone 11. The only disadvantage of night mode is that you have to keep your iPhone still for a relatively long time. It is therefore advisable to look for support somewhere. Or to use a tripod of course.
  • Try burst mode. This is especially useful if you want to photograph a Christmas tree with flashing lights, for example, but also when you take a photo of the whole family. By quickly taking a whole series of photos, you increase the chance that there will be a photo with lights on, or a photo in which all family members are smiling. You use burst mode by swiping the shutter button to the left.
  • Shoot in RAW. Unfortunately, this is only possible with some iPhone Pro models. If you have the option, use it. If you want to take photos with ProRAW, go to ‘Settings>Camera>File Formats’ and enable ‘Apple ProRAW’. The switch will then appear in the Camera app.
  • Edit your photos. If you have photos that you are already quite satisfied with, you can often give them that little bit extra by editing them. First think about what a photo still needs. Sometimes you want the colors a little more intense (don’t overdo it!), sometimes you might want to convert the photo to black and white. Be sure to experiment with the filters in the Photos app.
