Carplay
Apple has released the Release Candidate (RC) of iOS 18.4! The release candidate is usually the latest test version before Apple releases the final update. So we don’t have to wait long for iOS 18.4, probably Apple will be releasing the new software version next week or the following week. Then not only new functions come to your iPhone, CarPlay is also expanded with a number of features.
It was already clear that the CarPlay screen is better used from iOS 18.4. Does your car have a big screen? Then you see three rows with applications from iOS 18.4, now there are two more. That is a handy improvement, because this way you have less empty space on the screen and more apps within reach. Apple will soon add a new function to CarPlay.
End of Apple Cards
From iOS 18.4, users within the European Union get more freedom when choosing standard apps on the iPhone and iPad. This is the result of European legislation, which requires Apple to make certain changes. Through these regulations, web stores from third parties are admitted to the iPhone and you can adjust a number of standard apps. For example, it is possible to change the standard camera and photo library app.
With iOS 18.4, the navigation app is also added. At present, Apple cards are automatically opened if you want to navigate. This happens, for example, when you tap an address in another app, in that case your iPhone always uses cards to look up the address. From iOS 18.4 you can adjust this to another navigation app, such as Google Maps. You can then see this in CarPlay, because the same standard app is opened there.
Release of iOS 18.4
CarPlay gets two useful functions with iOS 18.4. Do you prefer to use a different navigation app than Apple cards? Then you can set that soon on your iPhone, with CarPlay the same application is then used. Other improvements at CarPlay are reflected in planning EV routes. Apple cards also recognize the charging points of Tesla from iOS 18.4, giving EV routes more options.
These new functions will soon be added to CarPlay, because Apple will soon release iOS 18.4. It is expected that the update Monday April 7 or Tuesday April 8 appears.
