During the WWDC of 2025, Apple has already shown several new functions of iPados 26. And it seems that the iPad will take over more and more functionality of the Mac. In addition to the new look, these are the most interesting new functions of iPados 26!

• Windows can now be adjusted entirely to the iPad as desired;
• You can have several windows on the screen at the same time;
• It is possible to start an app several times at the same time;
• Windows are easier to organize, for example, at the touch of a button you can divide your screen in quarters where each app takes a quarter of the screen;
• With each window you will now find the well -known colored balls of the Mac to close, minimize or maximize the famous colored balls of the Mac;

• Apps save their dimensions and final position;
• Apps store both their positions and layout on external screens;
• The iPad now has a kind of Mission Control-Gesture. With this you get to see all open apps. Apple mentions this function on the iPad ‘Exposé’;
• One of the most striking new features on the iPad is that you now find a menu bar at the top of the screen that looks a lot like the menu bar on the Mac;
• Apps can adjust these menu bar as desired (just like on the Mac);
• When you use a touchpad on the iPad, the cursor is now a pijtje;
• The use of the cursor now looks much more like that on the Mac;
• The files app now has columns that you can adjust;
• You can now give folders in the files app a tan, icon or emoji;
• You can set a standard app for each type of file to open the file;
• It is now possible to drag folders to your dock. You can then open them more easily when you need them;

• The Preparation app is now available on the iPad;
• The iPad can perform background tasks while you are working in another app;
• You can now choose different microphones per app or website, similar to the input/output options on macOS;
• Audio and video of video calls can be recorded in high quality;
• Notes can now be exported as Markdown files.

These iPads get iPados 26

The update becomes available for all iPads that now run iPados 18. There is an exception: the 7th generation iPad from 2019, because it will lose weight this year. Also keep in mind that not all functions is always available for each iPad. The update is currently still in beta, but iPados 26 will be available for everyone in September.
