These 6 new features will come to your AirPods Pro 2 with iOS 18

iOS 18 brings not only new features to your iPhone, but also to your AirPods Pro 2. Here are the six new features you can expect this fall!

These are the features your AirPods Pro 2 will get with iOS 18

To use the new features of the AirPods Pro 2, you need iOS 18, iPadOS 18 or macOS Sequoia and a firmware update that will be released at the same time as the software updates. We list all the changes for you!

1 Gestures with your head

If you’ve ever had to decline a call but would rather not use voice commands or your hands, there’s a solution on the way. iOS 18 will let you control your AirPods Pro 2 by moving your head. When you receive a call, you can shake your head no to decline the call or nod yes to accept the call.

Even when you respond to Siri to check incoming or outgoing messages, you can use the same gestures for yes and no. So without having to say anything.

2. Voice isolation

With Voice Isolation, your AirPods Pro 2 will reduce loud background noise when you’re on a call, so the person you’re calling can hear you more clearly. In iOS 18, AirPods Pro 2 will use machine learning to detect and isolate ambient sounds like wind, nearby cars, people talking, and more.

Voice Isolation is a feature for both the original AirPods Pro and AirPods Pro 2.

3. More control over Adaptive audio

Adaptive Audio is designed to adjust the active noise cancellation and the audio you hear based on the noise around you. Adaptive Audio has traditionally been an all-or-nothing setting, but with iOS 18 you get more control over the feature so you can decide whether to let more or less noise through.

4. Personalized spatial audio for gaming

Personalized spatial audio is a feature that already exists in movies, TV shows, and music. It uses the TrueDepth camera on your iPhone to scan your face and ears to create a personalized profile.

In iOS 18, Apple is expanding Personalized Spatial Audio to games, bringing more immersive sound to gameplay. This change enables game developers to incorporate spatial audio into their games. Personalized spatial audio for gaming comes to AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, and third-generation AirPods with iOS 18.

5. Voice quality in games

AirPods Pro 2 get improvements to the sound quality of your voice when chatting in games with iOS 18, as well as dynamic head tracking and support for 16-bit 48kHz audio in games.

6. Improved latency

According to Apple, AirPods Pro offer the best wireless latency ever for mobile gaming, thanks to improvements coming in iOS 18. Improved latency means you’ll experience little to no delay between performing an in-game action and hearing the corresponding audio.

Other AirPods models

Many of the new features are exclusive to the latest AirPods Pro models. Head gestures and Voice Isolation aren’t available on other AirPods models, though Personalized spatial audio for gaming is coming to multiple AirPods models.
