This is the newest generation of the AirPods Max, which is being expanded with iOS 18.4 with three new functions. That is striking, because Apple has rarely released updates for the AirPods Max in recent years.

With the regular AirPods that is different, the AirPods Pro (2) regularly receives new features. Now it is the turn of the AirPods Max, which receives support for Losless Audio with iOS 18.4. This ensures that the sound quality is much higher, which makes music sound better with richer details. More than 100 million songs support Lossless Audio on Apple Music. Good to know: Lossless Audio also works with personal spatial audio.

More new functions

Do you want the best sound quality at the AirPods Max 2 from iOS 18.4? Then you have to connect the headphones wired to your iPhone or iPad. Lossless Audio is only wired, because this is not possible via Bluetooth. It is therefore a requirement to connect a cable to your iPhone or iPad, if you want to listen to Lossless Audio. You can then play Lossless Audio with 24-bit, 48 kHz.

This wired connection is new, because it is possible for the first time to listen to music with the AirPods Max (with USB-C). This was already possible with the Lightning version, but with the variant with USB-C this is only possible now. With iOS 18.4, the AirPods Max 2 also gets extremely low delay, so that the sound runs almost equal with the image. This is especially useful when playing games, making (and editing) content and music productions.

Updates for AirPods

With iOS 18.4, the new version of the AirPods Max will therefore receive a number of useful improvements. Apple announced the AirPods Max with USB-C in September 2024. The headphones then became available with a USB-C port, so that you only need one cable to charge your AirPods, iPhone, iPad and MacBook. In addition, the AirPods Max got a few new colors. The AirPods Max is available in the colors midnight, star light, blue, purple and orange.
