iOS 18.4 is the fourth major update of iOS 18 and contains all kinds of new functions for your iPhone. We list them all for you.

These are all new functions of iOS 18.4

You can update your iPhone to iOS 18.4 by tapping settings in the app and then choosing software update. You can install the update there. You can also just wait until you get a notification from Apple that iOS 18.4 is available.

You can install the update on all iPhone models that support iOS 18.4, but the new Apple Intelligence-Functions are only available on all iPhone 16 models (including the iPhone 16th, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. There is a way to use them in the Netherlands, for that you read the Apple Intelligence article is available in the Netherlands: this way you switch it on. Apple News+ is unfortunately not available in the Netherlands.

Apple Intelligence

• Reports with priority are displayed on top of your other reports, so that you immediately see which reports you require immediate attention.
• Sketch is now available as an extra style option in Image Playground, with which you can make beautiful sketch drawings.
• The Apple Intelligence functions support extra languages, including English (India, Singapore), French (France, Canada), German (Germany), Italian (Italy), Japanese (Japan), Korean (South Korea), Portuguese (Brazil), simplified Chinese and Spain, Latin-America, Latin, Latin, Latin, Latin, Latin, Latin, America).

Apple Vision Pro app

• With the new Apple Vision Pro app, which is automatically installed for users with an Apple Vision Pro, you can discover new content and spatial experiences and you have quick access to information about your device.

Apple News+ (not in the Netherlands)

• Recipes of some of the world’s best publishers of recipes are now available on Apple News+.
• With the recipe catalog you can browse or search to find the perfect dish and store in your stored recipes.
• With cooking mode you can easily follow step-by-step instructions.
• The food section also contains stories about restaurants, kitchen tips, healthy food and more.

Photos app

• New filters to show or hide items that are not in an album or are synchronized from a Mac or PC in the library display.
• Rearify items on media types.
• Consistent filter options in all collections, including the possibility to sort on the oldest or newest first.
• Option to sort albums by date changed.
• Possibility of ‘recently viewed’ and ‘recently shared’.
• Hidden photos are no longer included when importing to a Mac or PC if ‘use Face ID’ is enabled.

New Emoji

These are not new functions, but new emoji in iOS 18.4. The emoji of a face with ramparts under the eyes is probably the most striking, but these are all seven emoji you can use:

1. A face with bags under the eyes.
2. A fingerprint.
3. A tree without leaves.
4. A carrot vegetable.
5. A harp.
6. A kick.
7. A fantastic.

And there is still an eighth emoji available with the name ‘Vlag van Sark’.

Updates for CarPlay

iOS 18.4 also brings a few improvements to CarPlay. On cars with a screen that is large enough, the CarPlay start screen will now display three rows of app icons instead of two. It is now also possible to set a standard navigation app for users in the European Union. This applies to your iPhone and also to CarPlay.

Other functions and bug fixes in iOS 18.4

• Recent search suggestions in Safari help you quickly return to earlier search topics if you start a new search.
• Setup assistant streamlines the steps that parents have to take to create a children’s account for a child in their family, and calls in child-oriented standard settings if parents want to finish a children’s account later.
• Screen time Applimites continue to exist even after a child removes and reinstalls an app.
• App Store contains summaries of user reviews so that you get useful insights from other users at a glance.
• Pause and resume an app download or update in the App Store without losing the progress.
• New widgets for podcasts, including a Shops Widget followed to follow your favorite shows and a library widget to go to your most used sections, such as last episodes, stored and downloaded
• Background music (Ambient Music) offers the possibility to immediately play music from the control panel, giving you access to playlists.
• Apple Fitness+collections can now be added to the library.
• Matter-compatible robot vacuum cleaners can be operated in the Home app and added to scenes and automation.
• Support for ten new system languages, including Bangla, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.
