The best of Netflix 2023
Netflix remains the largest streaming service on the market and for good reason. Over the past year, Netflix has once again pleasantly surprised us with amazing series and films. With so much out there, you’ve probably missed some of the highlights. That’s why we’ve listed the best Netflix series and films for you.

15.Black Mirror
For a while it seemed like the world had caught up with Black Mirror, but the makers were still able to come up with stories about how technology can go too far. Including a strong episode about streaming services that use artificial intelligence.

14. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off
Fortunately, Scott Pilgrim’s animated series did not choose to retell the same story, but to use the characters and setting to do something new. That works very well, especially with the help of the star cast that also did the Scott Pilgrim film.

13. Lupin
Although the novelty of Lupine has worn off a bit, the series remains a great pleasure to watch in the latest season. This is largely thanks to the charismatic Omar Sy as main character Assane Diop.

12. They Cloned Tyrone
The local black population is being cloned underground in a lab. It is up to a drug dealer, pimp and sex worker to do something about that, in this comic film full of social criticism and, above all, a big nod to the blaxpoitation films of the seventies.

11. Sex Education
Unfortunately, this was already the last season of the excellent Netflix series Sex Education. It took some getting used to the fact that the students are going to a different school this time, but the strength of the series turned out not to be the location but the characters.

10. Leo
Leo has lived in a primary school classroom all his life. When he is supposed to have only one year left to live, Leo decides to escape. Leo is a heart-warming film full of life lessons.

9. The Wonder Story of Henry Sugar / The Swan / The Rat Catcher / Poison
Wes Anderson has adapted some of Roald Dahl’s short stories into four short films, which we conveniently consider as one big film by using the same cast and the same narrative structure. You may have to get used to how the narrator guides you through the scenes, but don’t let that stop you from enjoying this.

8. Bodies
Bodies is a surprising series about time travel, with a delightful mystery in which the same corpse turns up in different time periods. Each period is highly developed, while little by little you start to understand more about the overarching mystery.

7. Maestro
Bradley Cooper not only convincingly plays music legend Leonard Bernstein in this film, but he also directed Maestro. This shows the passion and love that Cooper has for both Bernstein and filmmaking.

6. Leave the World Behind
The man behind top series Mr. Robot tells an exciting story about the smartphone in our hands and other technology in our lives. About how it distracts us and how it can be used against us.

5. Heartstopper
After the successful first season of Heartstopper, about the love between two teenage boys, it remained to be seen whether the makers could continue that quality. That worked, because the second season, which is partly set in Paris, is again incredibly good, including more space for other characters in the LGBTQ+ community.

4. The Fall of the House of Usher
After The Haunting of Hill House/Bly Manor and Midnight Mass, Mike Flanagan has once again put a top series on Netflix this year. In The Fall of the House of Usher, a different child of an evil CEO dies every episode, in the most disgusting ways. That sounds boring, but stay interesting and exciting until the end.

3. Love’s Child
Liebes Kind is one of those series that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. A mother is found with her daughter after they were locked up in a bunker together for a long time. What exactly is going on?

2. Nimona
Young Nimona wants nothing more than to join a supervillain to take over the world. She thinks she has found this villain in a soldier who has been wrongly accused of murder. Even though they are not right for each other, they still have to work together. That is not only a lot of fun, but also very beautiful.

1. Beef
After an unfortunate encounter in a parking lot, two people can no longer let go of each other. This escalates further with each episode, making this series a pleasure to watch. In addition, Beef is above all supported by the performances of Steven Yeun and Ali Wong.
