OPPO’s press conference next week will be devoted to innovative shapes, according to the company. These innovative shapes are according to this post on Weibo “engraved in OPPO’s DNA.” Yesterday we already saw the pop-up camera in a yet to be announced OPPO smartphone. Incidentally, it is not a pop-up camera that appears at the top of the phone, as we know from the OnePlus 7 Pro or the flip camera of the ZenFone 7 and the ZenFone 6. Rollable or foldable?

The next product will already receive a name from OPPO, the OPPO Find N, and this is a foldable. We already know that OPPO is at an advanced stage with the development of foldable phones as we have already got our hands on a prototype. That was the 2021 OPPO X that served as a showcase to show what OPPO can do. This concept has a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen that you can extend to a 7.4-inch tablet screen. So this is not a foldable screen, also called foldable, but a rollable. It now seems that this rollable concept will not be the first to hit the market.

OPPO is going for a foldable smartphone and it is ready for the masses, the company says on Weibo: “December 15th is a major turning point for the foldable screen, moving from early adopters to mainstream use.” Pete Lau, chief product officer at OPPO, also says that the Find N is OPPO’s first foldable flagship smartphone: “The result of four years of intensive R&D and 6 generations of prototypes. The Find N is OPPO’s answer to the future of smartphones.”

The phone can be seen very clearly in the video. Like Samsung’s Fold series, it is a form factor that opens like a book, with a second screen on the front. That second screen is larger than we’ve ever seen on a foldable and takes up almost the entire front of the Find N. The foldable screen on the inside is also significant. In the video you can also clearly see the hinge, with the fold in the screen. It is not clear whether, as with the Galaxy Z Fold 3, there is also a selfie camera under the screen. OPPO also already shares a cross-section of the Find N in a press release and indicates that the development of this foldable is based on two pillars:

1. A device must first and foremost be beautiful.
2. Second, a product must be useful as well as easy to use.

OPPO also thinks that with the Find N, it has solved the main pain points in other foldable smartphones, such as the fold in the screen and the overall durability of the device. OPPO claims to have used the best hinge and display designs currently available today. Whether this is all true remains to be seen in reality. We hope, of course, that OPPO will have test copies of the Find N as soon as possible so that we can test its folding capabilities.
