Apple has announced a new version of the iPad Pro and MacBook Air. What can you expect?
What immediately becomes clear from Apple’s announcement is that the 16-inch MacBook Pro is no longer Apple’s only laptop with a reliable keyboard. Apple also says goodbye to the butterfly mechanism for the new 13-inch MacBook Air and returns to the familiar scissors mechanism.
Apple received a lot of criticism because of the butterfly keyboards, because they would be very sensitive to dust and small dirt. Many keyboards failed and a repair proved unnecessarily complicated.
Faster and cheaper
The new Air should also be twice as fast as its predecessor, thanks in part to the tenth-generation Intel Ice Lake quad-core processors. Apple also promises up to 80 percent faster graphics performance through the Intel Iris Plus Graphics. Furthermore, the laptop gets twice as much storage. The base model contains 256GB of storage, but you can upgrade it to a whopping 2 TB.
The base model of the new Air also has a somewhat more attractive price tag of 1,199 euros, where the previous Air still cost 1,249 euros. And for that you also get a much better laptop.
The Air has unfortunately not got the great speakers from the 16-inch MacBook Pro, but according to Apple, the MacBook Air nevertheless sounds “better than ever” thanks to new sound techniques. The stereo speakers deliver twice as much bass and 25 percent more volume. “The stereo sound is wider.” The new laptop now also has three microphones to pick up your voice.
Apple will start delivering the laptop between April 7 and 16. Pick up from the Apple Store is not yet included, because the stores are closed until further notice due to the corona virus.
iPad Pro
Apple also announced a new iPad Pro for a price starting at 899 euros or 1,119 euros, depending on the size and connectivity options. You can use the iPad immediately order online with next business day delivery.
Both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch models are very similar in appearance to last year’s models, but inside the tablet you will find a faster processor and an extra camera lens, similar to that of the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro. This extra camera lens makes it easier to take wide-angle photos.
Apple also flaunts the LIDAR scanner, which improves the augmented reality capabilities of the iPad. More striking is the new keyboard that you can order with the new iPad. You can fold out the keyboard to a standard in which you can put your iPad. This way you can transform your iPad into a laptop in no time. The keys are backlit and have a trackpad.
Unlike the iPad Pro, the keyboard is not yet immediately available and can only be ordered in May. The price is not yet known.
