According to rumors, Apple has been working on its own car for years. Unfortunately, according to the same rumors, the development of Apple Car has been stopped. But which car brands should have built the canceled Apple Car?
According to usually reliable Apple expert Mark Gurman, Apple has been in contact with several car brands. Of these, the discussions with Mercedes-Benz were the furthest advanced. Mercedes would build the Apple Car, but also wanted to sell their own cars with Apple technology. Apple ultimately backed out of the deal because they believed they could make the car themselves.
Mercedes-Benz wasn’t the only car brand that Apple contacted to create an Apple Car. Apple also had discussions with Ford to develop the smart car, but those discussions did not go beyond a few meetings.
Tesla was also one of the possible candidates, but Tim Cook decided against that quite early. According to Bloomberg, Apple also almost had a deal with automaker McLaren, but that also ultimately fell through.

The end of the Apple Car
After discussions with various car brands about the Apple Car, development was plagued by delays. In 2022, Apple even decided to temporarily disband the team around the Apple Car. A new team was later formed, with which Apple wanted to meet the 2025 deadline.
But it recently emerged that the company was encountering problems again, as a result of which Apple planned to postpone the project until 2028. That also turned out to be in vain, because Apple has already discontinued the Apple Car.
