Until the early 1970s

Until the early 1970s, the offer was thin for those looking for a small car with its own set of doors for the rear passengers. These four-door little ones were already around when that was still really special.
Morris Minor (1950)
Initially, the Minor designed by Alec Issigonis appeared in 1948 with two doors. From 1950, rear passengers have their own entrance. Is that a success? Ultimately, the car will remain in production until 1970.
Austin A30 (1951)
The A30 is Austin’s answer to the Minor. When Austin and Morris merge, the Minor will get the A engine from the A30. The A30 itself only remains in production for five years, but the A engine lasts until 2000, when the last Mini leaves the production line.
Renault 4CV (1947)
As a form of reparation, the French considered bringing the entire Volkswagen factory to France in 1945. It doesn’t get to that point. Prisoner of war Ferdinand Porsche must provide advice on the development of the Renault 4CV, which, unlike the Beetle, has four doors. Just like the 2CV.
Mazda Carol (1962)
In the 1960s, the Japanese car industry was already working on kei cars. A four-door version of the Mazda Carol, which was delivered from 1962 to 1970, was also delivered. It was longer than the two-door, but it also had a larger engine, with 586 cc.
Seat 800 (1963)
Initially, Seat mainly built Fiats under license. However, the 800 is its own model, a 600 with extra doors. It has suicide doors in the front.
Buick Mini Brute (1966)
In addition to its large models, Buick also offered a small sedan by American standards in the late 1960s: the Mini-Brute. We just know it as the Opel B Kadett, but with an Olympia nose.
Honda Civic (1972)
In the early 1970s, the car industry slowly switched to the hatchback. So is Honda. The first Civic is available with both a large and a small tailgate and in the latter case with two or four doors. Choice stress.
Peugeot 104 (1972)
The Peugeot 104 debuts as a four-door fastback with a small tailgate. Only with the facelift is the small hatch replaced by a large one and the 104 becomes a five-door hatchback.
