These Mac models support macOS Tahoe

Apple has officially announced MacOS 26 and then we immediately know which devices will support the new software. Unfortunately, there are also a good number of ‘old’ Macs this year.

This means that some Mac models, which are now running macOS sequoia, cannot be updated to macOS Tahoe. On average, the Apple devices are provided with major updates for 5 to 6 years. In recent years, more and more older versions have been provided with security updates.

MacOS 26 can only be installed in a limited extent on Mac computers with an Intel processor. This means that various old models fall off. Do you have a Mac with an M1 chip or newer? In practice, this means that you cannot install macOS 26 on iMac Pro from 2017, Mac Mini from 2018, MacBook Air from 2020 (Intel), 15-inch MacBook Pro from 2018 and 2019, 13-inch MacBook Pro from 2018, 2019 and the MacBook Pro 13-inch (2 Thunderbolt 3-GOORTEN) from 2020.

If you are looking for a new Mac, it is advisable to choose a device that is still being updated. Think of a recent copy or a model that was introduced about two years ago. Note that some models do not support all new functions.

MacOS 27 Only for Apple Silicon

During WWDC25, Apple officially announced that Macos Tahoe will be the last major software update for its Intel Computers. This means that macOS 27 can only be installed on Macs with an Apple Silicon Processor. Mac computers with an Intel chip continue to receive security updates.
