A total of eight new emojis are coming. These include an orca, a trombone and a treasure chest. It is striking that a species of Bigfoot can now be found. The official Dutch names are not yet known. In the official pdf read more about the new emojis that are coming.

There are some other emojis coming in 2025. These include a face with bags under the eyes, fingerprint, tree with branches, root vegetable, harp, shovel and some kind of ink stain. These have already been announced in 2024.

The new emoji, including the orca, will have to wait a little longer. These will probably be approved around the fall of 2025. After that, it will take a while before Apple implements the new emojis. It could take until early 2026 before you can use new emojis on your iPhone.

By the way, keep in mind that Apple makes its own version of the emojis. They often look slightly different than those shown in the announcement.

The last time new emojis were added to your iPhone was with the iOS 17.4 update, which was in March 2024. That included a shaking head and a broken chain.

Create your own emojis with Genmoji

iOS 18.2 includes a new feature called Genmoji. It even allows you to create your own emojis. Unfortunately, this function is not yet available in the Netherlands. This has to do with European regulations, which means that Apple does not yet want to release the new AI functions here on the iPhone and iPad.

Fortunately, this will change next year, because Apple has now announced when the new technology will also be available here. From April 2025, we will be able to use Apple Intelligence in the EU with Genmoji.
